Following the theme of smartphones now being multimedia devices, there were two interesting developments; the first being the inclusion of Moto on the scene with a new smartphone, and a two dimensional stand to promote it; on one side there was an oversized model of their new smartphone with a tv screen playing multimedia, on the other the image you see above, a huge panoramic of Covent Garden as a scene inviting us to blog from our mobile, so here it is, from a Nokia!

Apart from the SMS at the top of the page being the most sophisticated mobile interaction at the show this year, there were more surprises; a band! It even appeared as though conference players could rock up and play with the band. For a moment I had a flash back and thought I was in the Nokia tent at a music festival, and my first instinct was to take advantage of some free beer! Alas I was still at a conference / exhibition and so settled for a paid-for double espresso, and contemplated how the meeting went when it was decided that a live band was called for. It did get me thinking though; what started as principally as a business tool, the smartphone has now become a multimedia device as well.

What better event to kick off my mobile content generated blog than at the Symbian smartphone show in 2007; the technology to do so, courtesy of nokia lifeblog and typepad's integration of lifeblogs's open api have been around for a while, indeed i could have done this for the show two years ago on an N70. So why now? Well for a start, two years ago the pictures would have been from an OK 2mp camera, not the exemplary 5mp one I am using today, I would be editing this on a paltry 176x220 screen rather than the vislumbrant 2.6" QVGA one I am using now, and I would have been using plain old 3G, which was a chore when it came to moving multimedia files, rather than the zippy 3.5G HSDPA I shall be using to upload most of this blog. None of these are culpable for me not doing this sooner; it is the above use of SMS based interaction instead of the brilliant flash application of last year's show that had me reaching for lifeblog.
